Motihari/Patna: The world’s largest Shivaling arrived late on Monday evening in Kesariya, triggering scenes of devotion and spectacle as crowds gathered along its route through East Champaran district. Transported from Gopalganj via the Dumariyaghat bridge, the massive structure was welcomed with chants of “Har Har Mahadev” and “Bam Bam Bhole”, echoing through the town well into the night.
The giant Shivaling was temporarily stationed near the BB Utsav Palace in Kesariya, where devotees continued to arrive in large numbers to offer flowers and garlands. Many described the moment as spiritually uplifting, with families and groups travelling from neighbouring areas for a glimpse of the monolithic idol. Dozens of decorative arches were erected along State Highway-74, underscoring the scale of local preparations.
According to the district administration, the Shivaling will resume its journey on Tuesday morning towards Kaithwalia, with arrangements in place to allow devotees another opportunity for darshan. Officials said traffic diversions, crowd control measures and security deployment had been planned to ensure a smooth passage.
The movement of the Shivaling from the Champaran border to Kesariya passed off without incident under the supervision of local magistrates and police officials, who maintained a strong presence along the route. Authorities said the focus remained on public safety as well as facilitating the large influx of devotees drawn by the rare sight of the colossal Shivaling.
