Patna: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken major action against a fake government job scam by conducting raids at multiple locations across the country. The operation focused on a gang that was cheating people by offering false appointments, mainly in the railways. On Wednesday, ED teams carried out searches at 15 locations in states including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat. In Bihar, raids were held in Muzaffarpur and Motihari, while other teams searched premises in Kolkata and several southern and western states.
Investigators said the scam was carefully planned and well organised. The accused issued fake appointment letters in the names of government departments and sent them through email IDs that closely looked like official government addresses. This made many job seekers believe the offers were genuine. To further build trust, the gang showed examples of people who were supposedly appointed as Railway Protection Force personnel, ticket checkers and technicians.
In many cases, the fraudsters went a step further by paying salaries for two or three months after the appointment. This was done to remove any doubt in the minds of the victims. Once the candidates fully trusted the process, they were asked to pay large amounts of money for postings, confirmations or other formalities. After collecting the money, the gang disappeared, leaving the job seekers cheated and helpless.
The ED has found that the fraud was not limited to railway jobs. Fake appointments were also shown in the names of other government departments, including the Forest Department, Income Tax Department, High Court, Public Works Department and offices of the Bihar government. Officials said the investigation is still ongoing and more details are expected to emerge. The action is seen as a strong warning that strict steps will be taken against those involved in cheating unemployed youth through fake government job schemes.
