Patna/Khagaria: Residents of Bihar’s Khagaria district staged protests on Thursday following the rape and killing of a five-year-old girl, with demonstrators accusing the authorities of failing to act promptly and decisively.
Family members and villagers entered the district collectorate and blocked Kachahari Road, disrupting traffic and official work. Protesters demanded the immediate arrest of the accused and sought the removal of the station house officer of the Gangaur auxiliary police station.
The crime took place on Wednesday in the Gangaur police station area. According to the family, the child was abducted and later found dead. Relatives allege that she was sexually assaulted before being killed, a claim that has intensified public anger.
Senior officials, including the subdivisional officer Dhananjay Kumar and deputy superintendent of police Mukul Ranjan, reached the site to negotiate with the protesters. Despite assurances of action, demonstrators continued to raise slogans against the police administration.
As tensions remain high in the district, the case has put renewed pressure on the Bihar police to act swiftly and transparently, with residents and rights groups calling for justice for the child and concrete measures to prevent such crimes in the future.
