Patna: The Howrah–Anand Vihar Amrit Bharat Express will now stop at Sasaram station, following approval from Indian Railways, in a move that is expected to benefit millions of passengers across Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand.
The weekly service, operating with 20 coaches under train numbers 13065 and 13066, connects eastern India with the national capital. Until now, Sasaram has not included among its scheduled halts. The decision has been greeted with enthusiasm by residents and passenger groups, who have long demanded better long-distance rail connectivity for the region.
A public advocacy group, Police Public Helpline, thanked the railway board and the railways minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, for approving the additional stop, calling it a significant step towards improving accessibility and convenience for ordinary travellers.
On its route from Howrah to Anand Vihar, the Amrit Bharat Express passes through Bandel, Bardhaman, Durgapur, Asansol, Dhanbad, Gomoh, Parasnath, Koderma, Gaya, Anugrah Narayan Road, Dehri-on-Sone, Sasaram, Bhabua Road, Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction, Varanasi, Jaunpur City, Sultanpur, Maharaja Bijli Pasi (Nihalgarh), Lucknow, Shahjahanpur, Bareilly, Moradabad, Gajraula, Hapur and Ghaziabad before reaching its final destination in Delhi.
Local representatives said the new halt would make long-distance travel easier for people from Sasaram and surrounding areas, who previously had to rely on other stations or indirect routes. They added that it would also reduce overcrowding at nearby major junctions by distributing passenger traffic more evenly.
“This is a decision taken in the interest of passenger convenience, safety, and dignity,” members of the advocacy group said, describing it as a long-overdue recognition of Sasaram’s growing importance.
With the addition of this stop, Sasaram station is expected to gain greater prominence on the national rail network, strengthening its role as a key transport link for southern Bihar and improving mobility for travellers heading towards Delhi and other parts of northern India.
