Patna: This year’s Republic Day celebrations at Gandhi Maidan in Patna will offer much more than the traditional parade. The Bihar government is preparing to present a “Mini Bihar” through 13 detailed tableaux that will reflect the state’s rich cultural heritage, spiritual traditions, development initiatives and social progress. The aim is to give people a clear and simple picture of Bihar’s identity and future vision, all in one place, on January 26.
One of the most important attractions will be the tableau of Punauradham in Sitamarhi, believed to be the birthplace of Goddess Sita. This tableau will highlight Bihar’s deep spiritual roots and the emotional connection people have with the site. The state government is developing Punauradham as a major religious and cultural tourism centre, with around Rs 882 crore being invested in the project. Through this display, Bihar hopes to present its spiritual heritage on a national platform while also promoting tourism and local development.
Women’s empowerment will be another strong theme of the parade. The Transport Department’s tableau will show women driving pink buses, carrying the message of “Women’s Power, National Power”. This reflects the government’s efforts to create safe public transport and employment opportunities for women. At the same time, the Art and Culture Department’s tableau will focus on Bihar’s folk traditions and artists, showing how traditional art forms are being preserved and passed on to future generations.
Several tableaux will focus on development and social change. Themes such as clean energy, environmental protection, stronger rural economies, better education, industrial growth and a drug-free society will be presented in an easy-to-understand visual form. These displays are meant to show how different government departments are working together to build a self-reliant and progressive Bihar.
Preparations for the parade are in their final stages. Despite cold weather and dense fog, rehearsals are taking place daily at Gandhi Maidan with great discipline and enthusiasm. About 20 contingents, including male and female battalions of the Bihar Police and paramilitary forces, are participating. With these preparations, Gandhi Maidan is set to become a grand stage on Republic Day, showcasing Bihar’s faith, culture, achievements and hopes for the future to the entire nation.
