Patna: A new high-level bridge is set to be constructed over the Bagmati River in Shivhar, as part of the Sitamarhi-Shivhar-Motihari railway project in Bihar. The bridge, approximately 61 metres long and nine metres wide, will carry two railway tracks and is expected to bring significant benefits to the districts of Sitamarhi, Shivhar and East Champaran.
The East Central Railway has issued orders for the construction, with costs estimated at around Rs 70 crore. The broader rail project aims to enhance connectivity between the three districts, with the line stretching 28 kilometres between Sitamarhi and Shivhar and a further 51 kilometres between Shivhar and Motihari.
Land acquisition and surveys for the Sitamarhi-Shivhar section have recently been completed, covering 17.5 kilometres in Sitamarhi and 10.5 kilometres in Shivhar. The route will feature 13 bridges and 62 culverts, as well as new stations at Rewasi, Dhankoul and Shivhar. The project will connect Shivhar to the railway network for the first time, allowing residents easier access to major cities such as Mumbai and Delhi without needing to travel via Muzaffarpur or Bapudham Motihari.
Officials say the rail line will generate employment opportunities, facilitate transport for small and medium-sized businesses, and support tourism in the region. The operation of trains along the new route is expected to strengthen Bihar’s transportation network and improve the quality of life for local residents.
