Buxar: More than 12,000 ration cards are set to be cancelled in the Dumraon subdivision of Buxar district, Bihar, following the identification of ineligible beneficiaries. The move comes after the state’s Food and Public Distribution Department shared updated data through its online portal, flagging a large number of cards as suspicious.
After reviewing the figures, the sub-divisional officer (SDO) directed all block supply officers to carry out detailed checks and submit verification reports. Officials said the exercise aims to ensure that food subsidies reach only those who are genuinely eligible under the public distribution system.
Among the seven blocks in the subdivision, Simri has emerged as the most affected area, with 3,862 ration cards marked as doubtful. Other blocks with high numbers include Brahmpur, where 2,611 cards are under scrutiny, and Dumraon block with around 2,200 such cases. Nawanagar has 1,807 suspicious cards, while smaller numbers have been reported from Chaugain, Kesath, Chakki and Dumraon town.
Authorities said ration card holders whose names appear on the list have been informed through fair price shop dealers. Those who believe they have been wrongly identified as ineligible can submit an application to the block supply officer or supply inspector, along with documents to prove their eligibility. Officials added that only after this verification process will the final cancellations be carried out.
