Patna: The Bihar government has stepped up efforts to expedite construction of the Sultanganj–Aguwani Ghat Ganga bridge, with senior officials ordering faster execution while insisting on strict quality standards.
A review meeting was held on Saturday at the road construction department’s conference hall, chaired by Pankaj Kumar Pal, secretary of the department. The meeting was attended by experts from IIT Roorkee, along with senior departmental officials and officers associated with the project.
Officials said significant progress had been made on the construction of approach roads on both sides of the bridge. Pal directed the contractor to further accelerate the pace of work by deploying adequate manpower and machinery to ensure completion within the stipulated timeline, while making it clear that there would be no compromise on construction quality.
The secretary said the department was closely monitoring the project to ensure smooth and timely completion. He also emphasised strict adherence to directions issued during a site inspection by Pratyaya Amrit, the chief secretary of Bihar, on December 13, 2025.
The review followed the resumption of work on the project and a video-conference meeting held on January 5, 2026. During Tuesday’s assessment, officials reviewed the latest status of the approach roads leading to Aguwani Ghat and Sultanganj.
It was decided that the bridge foundation design would be vetted by IIT Roorkee within a week, after which foundation work would begin immediately. Officials said all foundation work between piers P-9 and P-12 would be taken up on priority.
The total length of the approach roads linked to the project is 20.3km, with construction progressing broadly on schedule, officials said.
