Patna: The Government of Bihar has reviewed plans to scale up the dairy and fisheries sectors as part of its Seven Resolves-3 programme, with officials stressing village-level cooperatives, better distribution networks and new services aimed at strengthening rural livelihoods.
The review meeting was held on Sunday at Vikas Bhawan, Patna, under the banner of building a self-reliant Bihar. Officials discussed the implementation of a long-term strategy centred on establishing a dairy cooperative society (DCS) in every village and a Sudha milk sales centre in every panchayat.
The meeting, chaired by state animal and fisheries resources minister Surendra Mehta, examined ways to strengthen local market access for milk producers while ensuring the easy availability of quality dairy products for consumers. One proposal discussed was the expansion of milk home delivery services, including the use of electric carts to improve last-mile delivery.
The department’s secretary, Shirsat Kapil Ashok, briefed the minister on ongoing and proposed schemes through a detailed presentation. Officials said the emphasis was on building a robust cooperative network that could support producers, improve efficiency and stabilise incomes at the village level.
In the fisheries sector, the meeting considered plans to open fish retail outlets under the proposed brand name “Fresh Catch”, aimed at supplying consumers with fresh and high-quality fish. Proposals were also discussed to introduce fisheries veterinary and telemedicine services, which would provide technical advice and faster problem-solving support to fish farmers.
Senior officials present at the meeting included Sameer Saurabh, managing director of COMFED, special secretary Geeta Singh, dairy director Kedar Nath Singh and fisheries director Dilip Kumar.
