Patna: More than 52.22 lakh beneficiaries across all 38 districts of Bihar will be removed from ration cards after Aadhaar verification revealed discrepancies, officials from the Food and Consumer Protection Department said. The move follows large-scale checks where beneficiaries were rejected due to missing, incorrect, or invalid Aadhaar details.
So far, Aadhaar verification has been completed for 5.92 crore beneficiaries. Of these, 52.2 lakh names have been rejected. The state has a total of 6.74 crore Public Distribution System (PDS) beneficiaries whose Aadhaar seeding is mandatory.
Once the rejected names are removed from ration cards, these individuals will no longer be eligible to receive subsidised or free foodgrains from PDS shops.
Muzaffarpur Among Major Districts Affected
In Muzaffarpur district alone, 1.79 lakh beneficiaries will lose their ration card eligibility. Out of the district’s total 32.8 lakh PDS beneficiaries, Aadhaar seeding has been completed for 30.4 lakh. The rejected beneficiaries will now be excluded from PDS benefits.
District-wise Aadhaar Rejections
According to department data, the following districts have reported a high number of rejected beneficiaries:
• Patna – 2.96 lakh
• Muzaffarpur – 1.79 lakh
• Darbhanga – 2.64 lakh
• Madhubani – 1.98 lakh
• Nalanda – 2.29 lakh
• West Champaran – 2.06 lakh
• East Champaran – 2.21 lakh
• Samastipur – 1.40 lakh
• Sitamarhi – 98,700
• Vaishali – 2.43 lakh
Aadhaar Seeding Mandatory for PDS
Officials said Aadhaar seeding is compulsory for all PDS beneficiaries to ensure transparency and prevent duplication or fake entries. Beneficiaries whose Aadhaar details are incorrect or not linked must get them corrected immediately at their nearest ration office or PDS centre.
