Patna: Shreyas B. Chandra, a young scientist from Aurangabad district in Bihar, has brought international acclaim to India by winning a gold medal at the Invention, Innovation and Technology Exposition 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. The event saw participation from scientists representing more than 20 countries.
Shreyas, alongside his two teammates, developed a QR technology-based database management system that impressed international experts for its innovation and practical application. Their work earned them not only the gold medal but also the NRCT Outstanding International Invention and Innovation Prize—a distinction granted to just six countries worldwide. India had not received this honour for several years.
Shreyas’s parents, both teachers, expressed immense pride in their son’s achievement. “He has been passionate about research and innovation since childhood,” they said, appealing to the government to provide continued support to young talent so they can reach international platforms.
The 17-year-old’s accomplishments extend beyond this latest accolade. In April 2022, he created a device aimed at enhancing women’s safety. Later that year, he discovered two asteroids, now officially orbiting in space under his name, a feat that drew attention from NASA. In March 2023, he was also selected for the Space Kids India National Young Scientist Competition.
Shreyas is now preparing to present his research at upcoming international forums in Poland and Switzerland. His achievements are being hailed as a source of pride for Aurangabad and an inspiration for young scientists across India.
