Saran: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday announced a fresh round of development initiatives worth Rs 538 crore for Saran district as part of his ongoing Samriddhi Yatra. Reviewing progress on existing schemes, the chief minister directed officials to accelerate implementation and ensure that commitments made during earlier visits are delivered on the ground.
During the tour, the chief minister inaugurated a Didi Sewing Centre-cum-Training and Production Centre in Chhapra, run by the Radhe Krishna Jeevika Women Cluster Federation. The facility, supported by the Bihar Rural Livelihood Promotion Society (JEEViKA), has already connected 60 women to income-generating work. Interacting with beneficiaries, the CM was told that state-backed women employment initiatives had helped many achieve financial independence and greater self-confidence.
The chief minister also visited an exhibition showcasing schemes implemented by various government departments. Symbolic cheques worth Rs 2.07 crore were distributed to nearly 12,000 self-help groups supported by banks and development projects. Beneficiaries pointed to a range of welfare measures, including higher social security pensions, expanded support for micro-entrepreneurs, increased honorariums for grassroots workers, health screening initiatives and a first-of-its-kind monthly pension for senior artists in Bihar.
Later in the day, the chief minister inaugurated the Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Chhapra, describing it as a key pillar of the state’s skills and employment strategy. From the ITI campus, he remotely laid the foundation stone for 45 projects worth Rs 451 crore and inaugurated 24 completed schemes costing Rs 87 crore. Inspecting classrooms and workshops, the CM urged students to focus on skill development, underlining the role of training and education in Bihar’s long-term growth.
Senior ministers, top officials, district administrators and public representatives were present during the programme, underscoring the political and administrative backing behind the state government’s latest development push in Saran.
