New Delhi: Jamia Hamdard hosted a national crossword contest in New Delhi as part of a three-day youth programme organised under the aegis of the Union ministries of youth affairs and sports and home affairs, drawing enthusiastic participation from students across regions and institutions.
The contest saw 175 students from Kashmir and colleges affiliated with the University of Delhi take part, testing their linguistic skills, general knowledge and speed of thought in a competitive but collaborative setting. Organisers said the event was designed to promote intellectual curiosity, teamwork and a spirit of healthy competition among young people.
The programme was attended by senior academic and administrative figures, including Jamia Hamdard’s vice-chancellor Prof M Afshar Alam, registrar Colonel Tahir Mustafa, controller of examinations S S Akhtar and NSS coordinator Javed, alongside Vivek Kumar Singh, chairman of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA). The event was conducted by Vinayak Ekbote and supported by Beltron and the Central Bank of India.

Winners were announced in two categories. In the Jamia Hamdard Open Crossword Contest 2026, Adya Singh of St Stephen’s College secured first place, followed by Mohammad Aniese Itoo of Government Degree College and Nusrat Fayaz of GDC Sopore. In the Jamia Hamdard Crossword Contest 2026 category, the top three positions went to Mudassir Rashid, Zainab Rehan and Areeb Ali Hashmi.
Congratulating the winners and participants, the dignitaries encouraged students to continue engaging in academic and co-curricular activities that nurture knowledge, creativity and national integration. The university said such initiatives reflect its broader commitment to youth empowerment and holistic education through skill-based competitions and collaborative learning platforms.
