Patna: The Bihar government has revised security arrangements for a number of political leaders from both the ruling alliance and the opposition, upgrading protection for 13 individuals while reducing cover for five others.
The decision was communicated through an order issued by the home department on Tuesday. Senior police officials, including the director general of police and the inspector general of the Special Branch, have been directed to implement the revised security cover with immediate effect.
Among those whose security has been upgraded to Y+ category are Union minister Giriraj Singh, Nawada MP Vivek Thakur and Chirag Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Arun Bharti.
Y category security has been granted to Akhtarul Iman, Nitish Mishra and Bhojpur MLA Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha. Member of the legislative council Sanjay Kumar Singh will now receive Y category security along with an escort vehicle.
Janata Dal (United) spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan and former MLA E Sunil Kumar have been granted X category security.
Security cover has also been enhanced to Z category for several senior BJP leaders, including national general secretary Nitin Nabin, state president Sanjay Saraogi, health minister Mangal Pandey and Union minister Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh.
At the same time, the government has reduced the security cover of several prominent figures. The protection of Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has been downgraded from Z to Y+ category through a formal order.
Trinamool Congress MP and actor Shatrughan Sinha will now receive Y category security instead of Z. The cover for former MP Pashupati Nath Paras and former MLA Shakeel Ahmed has been reduced from Y to X category.
Officials said the revisions were based on periodic threat assessments carried out by security agencies, and stressed that such changes were routine administrative decisions rather than political signals.
