Patna: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Mohan Bhagwat held discussions with entrepreneurs and heads of educational institutions at Vijay Niketan in Patna on Tuesday as part of a two-day visit to the state.
Speaking at the Patna meeting, Bhagwat said the work of the RSS had evolved into completing and strengthening the constructive efforts aimed at national uplift that were under way at the time of the organisation’s founding. He reiterated that the Sangh was established to organise Hindu society as a whole.
The visit coincided with the RSS centenary year. On January 25 and 26, Bhagwat travelled across north Bihar and on Republic Day hoisted the national flag in Muzaffarpur. He later arrived in Patna, where he met senior volunteers and organisational functionaries.
Addressing a gathering earlier in Muzaffarpur, Bhagwat said that while the nation honoured soldiers who laid down their lives at the borders, society must also reflect on violence and conflict within the country. He emphasised that the Constitution not only guarantees rights but also places duties on citizens, adding that adherence to rules and civic conduct was a shared responsibility.
At a ‘Social Harmony Seminar and Dialogue Programme’ held at a resort in Muzaffarpur, Bhagwat spoke on issues ranging from population trends and social unity to India’s global role. He said debates over declaring India a Hindu nation were unnecessary, arguing that social diversity did not imply division and attributing historical rifts to colonial policies. The challenge, he said, was to overcome those divisions and foster unity.
Bhagwat also said conditions were being created for India to progress and emerge as a global leader, though challenges remained. Some countries, he suggested, viewed India’s rise as a threat to their interests and were attempting to create obstacles.
He is scheduled to depart Patna on Wednesday morning for the next leg of his visit.
