Darbhanga: Darbhanga is set to see a significant boost in connectivity and economic opportunity, with Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary announcing that the city’s airport will become an international facility from next year. The upgrade is expected to enhance air travel for students, business communities, and tourists while creating new local employment opportunities.
Speaking at a public dialogue at Dr. Nagendra Jha Stadium on Wednesday, Choudhary said the international airport project is scheduled for completion within a year. “Strengthening aviation infrastructure in north and eastern Bihar will open faster and more direct access to domestic and international destinations,” he added.
Choudhary also outlined the state government’s broader development plans. Construction of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Darbhanga is progressing rapidly, while a Detailed Project Report for a metro rail system is being prepared. These initiatives aim to transform the city into a regional medical and educational hub.
The deputy chief minister further highlighted industrial and disaster management efforts. He cited plans to develop the 280-acre Ashok Paper Mill site for industrial use once legal matters are resolved, ensuring local employment. He also noted improved flood preparedness, pointing out that despite the release of 6.5 lakh cusecs of water from Nepal in September 2025, only 156 villages were affected compared to widespread flooding in 2007-08.
Choudhary added that Bihar is building a grand temple dedicated to Goddess Sita and continues to monitor development projects through the Chief Minister’s “Samriddhi Yatra,” which seeks to ensure the benefits of growth reach every household.
