Rohtas: Behind the everyday bustle of a vegetable market in Sasaram, a grim discovery has shaken the town to its core. Early on Friday morning, a red trolley bag lying among heaps of garbage near Station Road in the Dehri area of Rohtas district was spotted by children who had come to collect waste. When they noticed something unusual and raised an alarm, local residents rushed to the scene and immediately informed Dial 112. Within minutes, police teams arrived, sealing off the area as crowds gathered, stunned and horrified by what they were about to learn.
When officers opened the suitcase, they found the body of a young girl, believed to be between 16 and 18 years old. The shocking sight spread rapidly through the neighbourhood, sending waves of panic and grief across the town. The bag had been dumped behind the market, a place usually filled with voices, colours and the smell of fresh produce, now turned into a scene of crime. The city police, along with the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team, began a detailed investigation, carefully collecting evidence from the spot.
Police officials have said that initial signs suggest the girl may have been sexually assaulted before being killed and hidden inside the suitcase. Her body has been taken to the Sadar Hospital in Sasaram for a post-mortem examination, which is expected to provide crucial answers. Local people, including Sunita Yadav, who came to the scene after hearing the news, expressed anger and sorrow. “Such criminals must be punished,” she said, calling for strict and speedy action against those responsible for what many are calling an unthinkable crime.
Rohtas superintendent of police Roshan Kumar confirmed that multiple teams are working on the case. “We received information about a dead body found inside a red trolley bag behind the vegetable market on Station Road in the Dehri Nagar police station area. A police team has been sent to the spot. The FSL team has also arrived. The investigation is underway, and it would be premature to say anything at this point. We can only comment after the post-mortem examination,” he said. As the town waits for answers, the chilling image of a red suitcase in a pile of rubbish stands as a haunting reminder of a life lost and a community demanding justice.
