Patna: Gopalganj woke up to dense fog on Saturday morning, with visibility dropping close to zero and severely affecting early-day movement. Similar conditions were reported from Madhubani, where thick fog also blanketed the district. The minimum temperature in parts of the region was recorded at around 10 degrees Celsius, keeping the chill intact.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bihar will continue to experience light morning and evening haze over the next few days. While the cold will still be felt during early hours, daytime sunshine is expected to provide some relief to residents.
The Meteorological Centre said there is no alert for dense fog in any district of Bihar today (Saturday). However, a gradual rise in both maximum and minimum temperatures is likely from February 12 onward. No rainfall is expected in the state for the rest of this month. In the last 24 hours, the minimum temperature across Bihar hovered around 8 degrees Celsius in some areas.
Why the Weather Remains This Way
Weather experts attribute the current foggy and mildly cold conditions to the weakening of western disturbances, low wind speed, and sustained moisture in the atmosphere. These factors are allowing fog and haze to persist, especially during early mornings and late evenings.
At the same time, longer exposure to sunlight in February is pushing up daytime temperatures. As a result, people are beginning to feel slight warmth during the afternoon hours even as mornings remain chilly.
Western Disturbance Weakening
Meteorologists say the active western disturbance over North India is gradually weakening. This is helping the overall weather in Bihar move back toward normal seasonal conditions.
February to Turn Warmer Gradually
Experts predict that Bihar’s weather will slowly become warmer through February. The minimum temperature could rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the coming days, reducing the intensity of the cold.
Light Haze Likely in Patna
In the state capital, Patna, light fog or haze is expected in the morning hours, followed by clear skies and sunshine during the day. The minimum temperature is likely to remain between 10 and 13 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature may range from 24 to 26 degrees Celsius. The IMD said Patna will continue to feel mild winter conditions for the next few days.
