Patna: The state-level sports, literary, and cultural festival Umang-2026, organised by the Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education, has entered its final round at the Patliputra Sports Complex, with students from government engineering colleges across Bihar competing for top honours.
The festival, which began on February 10, has featured intense contests in badminton, athletics, relay races, carrom, chess, volleyball, and cricket. On Wednesday, the women’s badminton semi-finals saw Government Engineering College, Gaya, and Vaishali advance to the final. Track and field events produced standout performances, with Faizan Raza Khan of Government Engineering College, Buxar, claiming gold in both the 100m and 200m sprints, while athletes from Supaul, Bhojpur, Begusarai, and Siwan excelled in high jump and long jump events.
Team coordination proved decisive in relay races. The 4x100m and 4x400m relays were dominated by the boys’ team from Buxar and the girls’ teams from Gaya and Bhojpur. Meanwhile, in indoor games, Saurabh Kumar and Sanjana Kumari emerged as champions in the boys’ and girls’ carrom competitions, respectively, and chess teams from Gaya, Buxar, Tirhut, and Bhagalpur claimed top honours.
The cricket tournament has reached the semi-final stage, with Government Engineering College, Samastipur, set to face Government Engineering College, Sitamarhi, and Government Engineering College, Buxar, taking on Government Engineering College, Aurangabad. The volleyball competitions have also progressed to the semi-finals for both boys and girls.
The festival concludes tomorrow with the final rounds of remaining events, followed by a closing ceremony where the engineering college with the best overall performance in sports, literary, and cultural activities will be awarded the top position.
