Patna: The State AYUSH Committee, Bihar, organized a scientific seminar and felicitation ceremony at Gyan Bhawan on February 11 to mark Unani Day 2026, celebrating the birth anniversary of the renowned physician Hakim Ajmal Khan. The event opened with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, attended by senior officials, health experts, and Unani practitioners.
Vaibhav Choudhary, Additional Secretary-cum-Executive Director of the State AYUSH Committee, presided over the programme, joined by senior officials from the health department and allied bodies. In a recorded address, the state health minister highlighted Unani medicine’s historical legacy and scientific foundations, describing it as a system that treats patients based on individual temperament while addressing the root causes of illness. He stressed the importance of lifestyle changes, natural remedies and balanced diets, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening traditional medical systems and expanding access to safe alternative treatments.

Speakers traced the institutional development of Unani medicine to Hakim Ajmal Khan, who played a central role in its modern dissemination and promotion. Mohd Shafiq, administrative officer, described Unani as a holistic and evidence-based approach that prioritises immunity and long-term health outcomes rather than merely managing symptoms.
Experts at the seminar discussed the relevance of Unani principles in contemporary healthcare, particularly in the management of chronic and lifestyle-related diseases. Outstanding practitioners and officials contributing to the AYUSH sector were recognised for their work.
The State AYUSH Committee said it is expanding Unani services across Bihar through dispensaries and joint AYUSH units, providing consultation, treatment and medicines to the public. Concluding the event, organisers reiterated their commitment to integrating traditional systems with modern healthcare under the slogan “Jai Bihar, Swasth Bihar.”
