Purnia/Buxar: Civil courts in Purnia and Buxar districts of Bihar were evacuated on Friday after bomb threats were received via email, prompting security lockdowns and investigations by police and cyber teams.
In Purnia, an email warning of a bomb attack was sent to the police’s official email address, triggering immediate action by the administration. The civil court complex, nearby areas and a neighbouring school were cleared as a precaution.
Jyoti Shankar, Sadar DSP in Purnia, said police responded swiftly after receiving the message. “An email threatening a bomb attack was received on the police email address. The surrounding area has been evacuated and security has been tightened,” he said, adding that the source of the email was being investigated.
Traffic near the court complex was restricted, and a bomb disposal squad was deployed to conduct a thorough search of the premises. Entry and exit points were sealed while technical teams examined the area.
Parents of students at the nearby school said they received urgent messages from the administration asking them to collect their children immediately.
A similar threat was reported at the civil court in Buxar around 11.15am, where an email was sent to the district judge’s official address warning of an explosion at the court complex.
Security protocols were activated immediately. Sadar SDPO Gaurav Pandey and the city police station in-charge, Manoj Kumar Singh, arrived at the site with additional forces. Lawyers, court staff and visitors were asked via public announcement to vacate the premises, and court work was suspended for the day.
Police teams conducted a comprehensive search of the Buxar court premises with technical support, while vigilance was stepped up in surrounding areas.
Vindeshwari Pandey, general secretary of the advocates’ association, appealed for calm and cooperation. “Security is paramount. Advocates and court staff are requested to maintain peace and fully cooperate with the administration,” he said.
Police officials said a cyber investigation was under way to trace the origin of the emails, including identifying the IP address and sender. While initial indications suggested the threats could be the work of mischief-makers, authorities said all aspects were being examined before drawing conclusions.
