Patna: Bihar is preparing for a major upgrade in its road network after a high-level meeting between the state’s Road Construction Department and the Asian Development Bank. The meeting focused on improving connectivity between industrial areas, manufacturing clusters, dry ports and important economic centres. Officials said the main aim is to build a modern transport system that supports business growth and makes travel easier for people across the state.
The department said that strong roads are essential for development, as they help goods move faster and reduce transport costs. When industries, markets and ports are connected by reliable highways, companies can expand, farmers can sell their produce more easily and new jobs can be created. The government is also improving coordination between departments so that projects can be completed on time and with better quality.
Several large road corridors are already being developed under this plan. Five major projects are being taken forward to strengthen logistics and trade. Important routes such as the Raxaul–Haldia and Patna–Purnea corridors are expected to improve access to ports, cities and remote regions. These roads will help shorten travel time and make transport more efficient for businesses and passengers.
Representatives from the Asian Development Bank praised Bihar’s progress in building new roads and upgrading old ones. They said that modern infrastructure is the backbone of a growing economy and can change the future of both urban and rural areas. Senior officials and engineers were also present at the meeting, sharing ideas on how to make the projects more sustainable and effective. With these efforts, Bihar is moving closer to becoming a stronger logistics and industrial hub.
