Hajipur: The Institute of Hotel Management Hajipur has inaugurated a five-day intensive training programme for 50 hospitality professionals from the Bhutan. The course is being conducted under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation initiative of the Ministry of External Affairs, which focuses on capacity building and strengthening international partnerships.
The delegation, consisting of 30 women and 20 men, was welcomed in a traditional Indian ceremony at the Hajipur campus. Faculty members honoured the participants with ceremonial stoles and welcome kits, reflecting India’s cultural value of treating guests with deep respect. The inauguration began with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp by senior faculty and programme coordinators, marking the formal start of the training.
In his address, the head of department highlighted the strong and friendly ties between India and Bhutan. He said the programme represents not only professional learning but also the strengthening of cultural and diplomatic relations. Senior lecturer Anupam Kumar explained that the training will cover front office operations, food and beverage service, culinary skills and digital hotel management systems, aiming to enhance the delegates’ practical knowledge.
Senior officials from the Bihar government visited the institute on the opening day to review the facilities and arrangements. They praised the smooth organisation of the programme and expressed satisfaction with the residential and academic support provided to the international guests. The first module on front office and digital operations began shortly after the ceremony.
The programme will run until March 1 and includes educational visits to historic sites such as Vaishali and Bodhgaya, offering participants a wider exposure to India’s tourism heritage.
