Patna: Sanjay Jha, national working president of the ruling JD(U) and a Rajya Sabha MP, said on Sunday that he had spoken to India’s external affairs minister, S Jaishankar, regarding the safety of people from Bihar residing in the United Arab Emirates and neighbouring regions affected by the Israel–Iran conflict.
The move comes amid reports of airstrikes and explosions in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait, as hostilities spread across parts of the Middle East. Bihar has a significant migrant population working in the Gulf, particularly in the UAE.
In a statement issued on Sunday morning, Jha said he had contacted Jaishankar on the instructions of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar.
“Deeply concerned about the evolving situation in parts of West Asia and the safety of Indians, including a large number from Bihar, residing in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and nearby regions. I have been receiving calls from our people there. On the instructions of the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, I spoke to External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar,” Jha said.

According to Jha, Jaishankar informed him that the Government of India is in constant touch with governments across the region and monitoring developments closely.
“Indian embassies are working overtime to ensure the safety and well-being of people from Bihar and the wider Indian community. The external affairs minister informed that he has personally spoken to the authorities in these countries,” Jha said.
Jha extended his support to members of the Bihari diaspora in the UAE and other affected countries and urged them to exercise caution.
“I appeal to all our people there to remain indoors, stay vigilant, and follow official advisories. The Government will take urgent and necessary measures as soon as the situation normalises,” he said.
