Patna: An elderly woman was left critically injured after a chain-snatching attempt in Patna’s Kankarbagh area on Tuesday afternoon. The 65-year-old, identified as Munni Devi from Bihiya in Bhojpur district, was dragged along the road when she tried to stop the thief.
Devi, who had come to Patna to attend a wedding, was walking with her granddaughter near Panch Shiv Temple around 3:30 pm when a young man on a black Bullet motorbike snatched her chain. Attempting to hold onto the thief, she was pulled along the street, suffering a broken right arm and serious injuries to several other parts of her body, including near her kidney.
She was rushed to a private hospital in Kankarbagh and is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit, with doctors closely monitoring her condition.
Her son, Dharmendra Kumar, a CRPF officer, said the accused appeared to have been lying in wait. “He was wearing a helmet, jeans, and a T-shirt and likely had targeted my mother,” he said.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the suspect. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed as part of the inquiry.
A crowd had gathered at the scene following the incident, helping Devi reach her accommodation before she was admitted to hospital. Authorities have urged witnesses to come forward to assist with the investigation.
