Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has said that the recent disruption in drinking water supply in Ambedkar Colony and nearby areas of Ward 51 was caused by human interference rather than a technical failure. The clarification came after a technical team from the civic body’s water supply branch inspected the site following media reports about the issue.
According to officials, the inspection found that the disruption was not due to a dried borewell or any malfunction in the water supply system, as had been suggested in earlier reports. Instead, the investigation revealed that the main sluice valve controlling the water flow had been deliberately shut by an unidentified individual, temporarily affecting supply in the locality.
Municipal officials said the borewell system in Ambedkar Colony was fully functional and operating normally. After identifying the issue during the inspection, the technical team reopened the valve on site, restoring water supply in the affected areas.
Following the intervention, normal water supply resumed in Mushar Toli, Garib Nawaz Colony, Raja Colony and other surrounding localities. Residents in these areas began receiving regular drinking water soon after the valve was reopened.
Taking note of the incident, the municipal commissioner of Patna Municipal Corporation said such activities are unacceptable and directed officials to begin securing valve points to prevent similar incidents in the future. Authorities have also urged residents to report any suspicious activity related to public utilities through the civic body’s toll-free helpline number 155304, so that timely action can be taken.
