Patna: Construction of the Patna Ring Road stretch between Kanhauli and Sherpur is expected to begin in April, with land acquisition underway for the project that forms a key part of the capital’s planned peripheral road network.
According to district officials, 185.26 acres of land across 11 mouzas are being acquired for the 8.48 km six-lane road. So far, around 70 farmers have applied to the district land acquisition office for compensation, and the applications are currently under review.
Officials said compensation payments will be processed soon. The district magistrate has also directed officials to organise local camps to receive applications from affected farmers and resolve documentation issues on the spot.
Farmers attending these camps will be assisted in correcting any deficiencies in documents such as land ownership papers, genealogy records, Aadhaar cards and PAN cards. In cases involving family disputes, separate documentation will be obtained to determine compensation.
The project is being implemented by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Officials said the construction of the six-lane road will cost around Rs 362 crore, while approximately Rs 285 crore has been allocated for land acquisition and related works.
The land acquisition covers villages including Mustafapur Mouli, Balua, Rasulpur Vijaygopal, Milki, Harshankarpur Narhanna, Santar, Mustafapur, Hiramanpur, Kanhauli, Painal and Parkhotimpur Panathi.
Ganga Bridge Work Progresses
The ring road project also includes a six-lane bridge over the Ganga between Sherpur and Dighwara, designed to connect Patna with North Bihar.
The bridge will be 9.98 km long, and officials said about 30% of the construction work has already been completed. The target is to complete the bridge by September 2027.

Key Link In 173 km Ring Road Project
The 173.5 km-long Patna Ring Road will pass through Patna, Saran and Vaishali districts, forming a major outer corridor intended to reduce congestion in the state capital and improve regional connectivity.
Construction of the Sherpur–Dighwara Ganga bridge is already underway, while work on the Kanhauli–Sherpur section is scheduled to begin next month.
The Kanhauli point connects with the Bihta–Sarmera road, which forms part of the ring road network. The Kachchi Dargah–Bidupur Ganga bridge also links into the corridor, while the road connecting Dighwara and Bidupur in Saran and Vaishali districts is planned as another segment of the project.
The Patna Ring Road project was conceptualised in 2020, with construction beginning in phases from 2022. The entire corridor is targeted for completion by 2028.
