Patna: Travel desks will soon be established at several major railway stations in Patna under the Danapur division of Indian Railways, in a move aimed at improving passenger convenience and access to travel-related services.
The initiative will cover three key stations — Danapur railway station, Patliputra Junction railway station and Rajendra Nagar Terminal railway station — where agencies will be appointed to set up and operate the desks. According to railway officials, the selected agency will manage the service for a period of three years.
The agency will be chosen through an electronic auction process. The travel desks will provide passengers with ticketing support, tour packages and general travel information. Officials from the divisional railway manager’s commercial office have invited applications from interested agencies through the Indian Railways e-procurement system.
Railway authorities said the e-auction will be conducted on March 30, with separate time slots allocated for each lot. The first auction will run from 11:00am to 11:30am, the second from 11:10am to 11:40am and the third from 11:20am to 11:50am. Each lot will have an initial cooling-off period of 30 minutes, with a 10-minute gap between the closing of consecutive lots.
Officials said the new travel desks are intended to provide passengers with a one-stop service point inside railway stations. Travellers will be able to obtain information about hotels, taxis, auto-rickshaws and local transport options, as well as details about major tourist and religious sites in the city.
Railway authorities added that passengers arriving from outside the city often face difficulties arranging accommodation or transportation after leaving the station. The travel desks are expected to reduce such challenges by offering reliable information and travel assistance in one place.
