Patna: Airfares from Patna have increased after rising global fuel prices forced airlines to revise ticket rates on several domestic routes. Private carrier IndiGo has raised fares by an estimated 8% to 15%, according to airline sources, as aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices climb amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The increase is affecting passengers travelling from Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport, one of Bihar’s busiest airports. Travellers are now paying noticeably higher fares compared with previous weeks as airlines pass on rising operational costs linked to fuel.
Ticket prices on key routes have already risen. The minimum airfare from Patna to Delhi, which earlier ranged between Rs 4,500 and Rs 5,000, has increased to around Rs 5,500–Rs 6,500. Similarly, fares for flights to Mumbai have gone up from roughly Rs 6,500–Rs 7,000 to between Rs 7,500 and Rs 9,000.
Other destinations have also seen price rises. Tickets from Patna to Kolkata that previously cost Rs 3,500–Rs 4,000 are now close to Rs 4,500, while fares to Ahmedabad have climbed from around Rs 6,500 to as high as Rs 8,500. Airline officials say the increases reflect higher fuel expenses affecting operations across the network.
Routes to southern cities have not been spared. Flights from Patna to Hyderabad now cost about Rs 7,000–Rs 8,000, up from Rs 6,000–Rs 6,500 earlier. Travel to Chennai has also become more expensive, with fares reaching around Rs 8,500. Even shorter routes to nearby cities such as Lucknow and Ranchi have seen increases of Rs 500 to Rs 1,000.
Airline officials say the fare revision was unavoidable due to global conditions and rising fuel costs. They added that prices could stabilise once international tensions ease. For now, however, passengers are likely to feel the impact, particularly as travel demand typically rises ahead of the summer holiday season.
