Patna: Healthcare professionals gathered at All India Institute of Medical Sciences Patna on Saturday for an advanced training programme aimed at strengthening life-saving care for newborns. The Department of Neonatology organised the Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Provider Course in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Pediatrics to enhance the ability of doctors and nurses to respond to emergencies during childbirth.
The intensive course focused on improving the clinical skills of postgraduate pediatricians, neonatologists and nursing staff through simulation-based learning and hands-on practice. Participants were trained in the latest evidence-based protocols for neonatal resuscitation, enabling them to respond quickly when a newborn experiences breathing difficulties immediately after birth.
The programme was inaugurated by Sanjay Pandey and Anup Kumar, who highlighted the importance of regular medical training in improving neonatal care outcomes. They said strengthening the skills of healthcare providers plays a crucial role in ensuring timely interventions and reducing preventable newborn deaths.
Senior representatives from the pediatrics body also attended the event. Nigam Prakash Narayan and Chandramohan Kumar praised the initiative and stressed the need for continuous capacity-building programmes to prepare medical professionals for neonatal emergencies.
Around 35 participants took part in the course, receiving practical training from a panel of neonatology experts led by Jagdish Prasad Sahoo. Faculty members including Bhabesh Kant, Rameshwar Prasad, Sourabh Kumar, Keshav Pathak, Richie Dalai and Meghna Nema guided trainees through practical demonstrations and skill-based modules.
A key focus of the training was the “Golden Minute” the first 60 seconds after birth when medical intervention is critical to help a newborn begin breathing. Experts said prompt and effective resuscitation during this period significantly improves survival rates and long-term health outcomes.
Organisers said initiatives like these are part of AIIMS Patna’s broader effort to strengthen neonatal care capacity and ensure that newborns receive timely and effective treatment in the earliest moments of life.
