Truck plunges into Bagmati river after collision on Samastipur bridgeSamastipur: One person was killed and three others were seriously injured after a sand-laden truck collided head-on with a tempo on Gudarghat Bridge in Bihar’s Samastipur district on Monday morning. The accident occurred under the jurisdiction of Khanpur police station and caused the truck to plunge into the Bagmati river after breaking through the bridge railing.
According to initial reports, the truck, bearing registration number BR 33 B 3096, was travelling towards Ballipur, while the tempo (BR 33 PA 4981) was heading from Ballipur towards Samastipur. The two vehicles reportedly collided while crossing the narrow stretch of the Gudarghat Bridge.
The impact of the collision was severe, causing the truck to lose control and crash through the bridge’s safety railing before falling into the river below. A passenger travelling in the tempo died at the scene, while three others sustained serious injuries in the accident.
Local residents rushed to the spot soon after the crash and helped rescue the injured passengers from the damaged vehicle. The injured were later sent to a hospital in Samastipur for treatment.
Police said additional station house officer Poonam Kumari reached the scene with a team of officers and launched an investigation into the incident. As the truck had fallen into the river, authorities began a search operation using a JCB machine to overturn the vehicle and check if anyone was trapped inside.
Officials said the exact cause of the accident remains unclear and is currently under investigation. The incident drew a large crowd of onlookers to the bridge, causing temporary disruption in the area.
