Patna: Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi on Saturday urged students to focus on understanding subjects rather than memorising facts merely to pass examinations, saying knowledge, creative thinking and innovation were essential for building a better future.
Addressing a programme at Bapu Sabhagar in Patna, Joshi said the National Education Policy (NEP) places special emphasis on innovation and education in regional languages to help children understand concepts more easily and learn effectively in their mother tongues and local languages.
Rs 1 Lakh Crore Allocated To Promote Innovation
Joshi said the central government had allocated Rs 1 lakh crore in the budget to promote innovation. Citing the example of a startup company, he explained how knowledge and new ideas could help individuals and businesses progress.
He encouraged students to develop their creative abilities alongside their studies and experiment with new ideas rather than confining themselves to textbook learning.
Students To Shape India’s Future By 2047
The Union minister said today’s students would play a crucial role in determining India’s future in 2047. By then, he noted, they would be young adults with the responsibility of contributing to the country’s leadership and development.
He also highlighted India’s position as the fastest-growing economy among the world’s major economies, urging students to equip themselves with knowledge, skills and innovative ideas to contribute to national progress.
Joshi Praises Bihar’s Seva Chitra And Speech Competition
Joshi praised the ‘Seva Chitra and Speech Competition’ organised in Bihar under the ‘Seva Hi Sankalp’ campaign, describing it as the best among similar programmes being conducted across the country.
He said such competitions give children an opportunity to showcase their talents, express their thoughts and develop their abilities beyond academic studies.
Archana Sharma Awasthi, Additional Secretary in the Department of School Education and Literacy, also addressed the programme.
Amarpit Duggal, Joint Secretary; U. P. Singh, Director of PM SHRI; and other senior Education Department officials were also present on the dais.
