Patna: Patna is set to see a significant boost in road infrastructure with the construction of a four-lane thoroughfare between Parsa and Sampatchak, a project aimed at easing traffic and improving regional connectivity. The initiative forms part of a broader wave of road and bridge projects currently underway across several districts of Bihar.
The widening of the Parsa-Sampatchak road comes in anticipation of increased vehicular traffic following the opening of the Mithapur-Mahuli Elevated Road. Officials say the development will provide smoother commuting for residents and is expected to accelerate the growth of the South Patna area, benefiting an estimated 500,000 people. The project carries an estimated budget of Rs 330.24 crore.
Following administrative approval from the state Cabinet, preparatory steps for the construction have already begun. The project was first announced by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during his “Pragati Yatra” (Progress Tour) of Patna district on February 21 last year.
The Asian Development Research Institute (ADRI) has been appointed to conduct a Social Impact Assessment (SIA) for the project. This will involve gathering feedback from local residents on potential challenges, including land acquisition, compensation concerns, and the anticipated benefits of the new road.
The 6.8-kilometre route, connecting Parsa Bazaar to Sampatchak Bazaar via Chipura and Badlachak, will feature a width of 14 metres and include the construction of nine bridges and culverts. The road will also link directly with the Patna-Dobhi highway near Sampatchak Bazaar, promising improved commuting options for the region.
