Patna: Patna is set to witness the construction of a state-of-the-art multi-level parking facility at Kangan Ghat, aimed at addressing long-standing challenges faced by devotees visiting the historic Takht Sri Harimandir Ji Patna Sahib. The Department of Tourism has sanctioned the project at a cost of Rs 99.26 crore.
On Tuesday, the foundation stone was laid by the Jathedar of Takht Patna Sahib, Giani Baldev Singh, accompanied by the Panj Pyaras, following a traditional Ardas ceremony. The inauguration, attended by saints and Singh Sahibs, marked the ceremonial beginning of the construction work, which will also involve voluntary service (Kar Seva) in the traditional Sikh manner.
Spanning approximately two acres, the six-storey facility will feature two high-tech car lifts, allowing vehicles to reach upper floors with ease. Jagjot Singh Sohi, president of the Management Committee, said the complex would accommodate over 500 cars and around 50 buses and trucks simultaneously, significantly reducing congestion around the sacred site.
The parking structure will have direct access to the JP Ganga Path (Marine Drive), enabling visitors to bypass the city’s narrow lanes and Ashok Rajpath traffic. A dedicated e-rickshaw service will ferry pilgrims between the parking facility and Takht Sahib, ensuring a smooth and convenient journey
Beyond parking, the building will host dormitory halls on the second floor for pilgrims travelling from distant regions, while the ground floor will include modern restrooms and waiting areas.
The project, expected to be completed within two years, was supported at the ceremony by prominent religious figures, including Baba Gurwinder Singh of Bal Leela Gurdwara and Baba Gurnam Singh of Kar Seva Delhi Wale, who committed to executing the initiative in the spirit of selfless service.
