12 Lakh Jobs Promised by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar in Independence Day Address
Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar marked Independence Day with a significant announcement, saying that the government plans to provide a total of 12 lakh jobs and 34 lakh employment opportunities in Bihar. Speaking at the flag-hoisting ceremony at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, where he unfurled the tricolour for the 18th time—setting a record for the state—the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s progress in job creation and outlined future targets.
In 2022, Kumar had pledged to create 10 lakh jobs, a promise he reiterated during his Independence Day address. He reported that 5.16 lakh jobs have already been delivered, with the recruitment process for an additional 2 lakh positions nearing completion. The new target, set before the upcoming assembly elections, raises the job creation goal from 10 lakh to 12 lakh. Additionally, the government aims to provide 10 lakh more employment opportunities, bringing the total to 34 lakh jobs by next year.
Kumar took the occasion to review the achievements of his administration, contrasting them with the practices of political rivals. In a pointed reference to the Lalu Prasad Yadav family, he criticised the practice of promoting family members to positions of power, saying, “Some people make their wives the CM and can’t think beyond their family.”
The Independence Day ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav, and BJP State President Dilip Jaiswal, among others. The event was conducted under tight security, with adjustments made to the city’s traffic system to accommodate the celebrations.
Meanwhile, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav extended their Independence Day wishes, with Lalu Prasad Yadav hoisting the national flag at his residence.
