Patna: A senior Bihar official is under investigation after the state’s Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) carried out coordinated raids across multiple districts on Tuesday over allegations of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.
Officials said the SVU registered a case against Brijesh Kumar, the Deputy Development Commissioner of Shivhar and chief executive officer of the district council, accusing him of accumulating assets worth approximately Rs 1.84 crore that are not accounted for by his declared earnings.
Search operations were launched following a warrant issued by a special vigilance court in Patna. Raids are being conducted at Kumar’s office and residential premises in the districts of West Champaran (Bettiah), Sitamarhi and Shivhar, where investigators are scrutinising financial records and other documents.
The action forms part of a broader crackdown by Bihar’s vigilance authorities targeting alleged corruption among public officials. Authorities have yet to disclose details of any seizures made during the searches, and the investigation remains ongoing.
