Patna: Anant Singh, the controversial Bihar strongman and former MLA, travelled through the state in a convoy of around 100 vehicles on Tuesday, days after securing bail in a murder case, as supporters lined the route chanting slogans and hailing his return.
Singh, who was released after spending 141 days in custody in connection with the killing of Dularchand Yadav, said his current journey from Patna towards Mokama was not politically motivated. Instead, he said he was heading to Barahiya to offer prayers at a local temple and would visit his constituency after a gap of 15 days.
Speaking to reporters, Singh also announced that he would no longer contest elections. He indicated that his son could enter politics in future, provided he remains actively engaged with the people of Mokama and works on their issues.
The show of strength was evident as his convoy moved through towns including Athmalgola, where supporters gathered in large numbers with garlands and greeted him with chants of “Sher-e-Bihar”. Visuals from the route showed groups of followers waiting along the roadside to welcome him.
Earlier on Monday, Singh walked out of Beur Jail and left in a Land Cruiser, accompanied initially by a smaller convoy that grew as he moved through the region. He briefly stopped at the MLA quarters in Patna, where he waved to supporters gathered outside.
Maintaining his innocence, Singh said he had been falsely implicated in the case and claimed he was several kilometres away from the crime scene at the time of the incident.
The case relates to the murder of Dularchand Yadav on October 30, 2025 during campaigning for the Bihar assembly elections. Singh was arrested from his residence in Mokama on November 1 and remanded to judicial custody a day later. On March 20, the Patna high court granted him bail in the case, paving the way for his release.
