Patna: The government in Bihar has accelerated plans to establish a large-scale Education City, months after receiving cabinet approval.
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared, focusing on developing a shared campus model inspired by global best practices.
The proposed Education City will be spread over more than 250 acres near Patna and is expected to function as a comprehensive education and innovation hub. The project has an initial budget allocation of over Rs 547 crore, though officials indicate the cost may increase as planning progresses.
Authorities are studying international models and consulting experts from countries like Japan and Singapore to design a modern, efficient academic ecosystem. A detailed global framework for the project is expected to be finalised within the next two months.
The Education City will bring multiple universities and colleges together under a shared campus system, allowing institutions to maintain their identity while sharing infrastructure and facilities.
Planned amenities include smart classrooms, digital libraries, advanced laboratories, research centres, seminar halls, hostels, guest houses, sports complexes, and auditoriums. Residential facilities for faculty and staff will also be developed.
Officials say the shared campus model will improve resource utilisation, reduce operational costs, and create a collaborative environment for students and researchers. It is also expected to strengthen industry-academia connections and promote innovation.
The project aims to position Bihar as a major centre for higher education, attracting students from across the country while generating employment and boosting the local economy.
