Patna: Political tensions in Bihar have intensified amid ongoing speculation over the state’s next chief minister, with fresh controversy erupting outside the Bharatiya Janata Party’s state headquarters in Patna.
A poster supporting senior BJP leader Samrat Choudhary as chief minister briefly appeared outside the party office on Thursday, only to be removed shortly afterwards by party workers. The BJP later said it had no connection to the display.
The development comes at a time of heightened political activity. Chief minister Nitish Kumar left for Delhi to complete formalities related to his Rajya Sabha membership, while reports that Choudhary was also scheduled to travel to the capital the same afternoon added to the sense of momentum around leadership discussions.
The poster, reportedly issued in the name of the “Valmiki Samaj Sangh”, called for a “Samrat government” in Bihar. It featured images of Choudhary alongside Rajesh Kumar Valmiki, prompting debate within political circles over its origins and intent.
Soon after it was put up, security personnel removed the poster. A party media in-charge later clarified that the BJP neither authorised nor endorsed it, distancing the organisation from the message.
The incident has raised questions about whether the poster was the work of enthusiastic supporters or part of a broader attempt to shape the political narrative at a time when the question of leadership in Bihar remains unresolved.
While the BJP has sought to downplay the episode, the swift removal of the poster has only added to speculation surrounding Choudhary’s potential role in the state’s leadership.
