Patna: Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday sharpened his attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party, alleging that the Bihar government is effectively being run from Delhi and not by elected leadership in the state.
Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah, the leader of the opposition said questions over who would become chief minister were misplaced.
“Why are you worrying about who becomes chief minister? Only two people decide who will be chief minister,” Tejashwi Yadav said, suggesting that decisions were being made centrally rather than within Bihar.
His remarks come amid heightened political activity following developments involving chief minister Nitish Kumar. Speculation intensified after senior BJP leader Samrat Chaudhary visited the chief minister’s official residence at 1, Anne Marg twice within a 24-hour period.
The meetings have fuelled debate in political circles over possible changes in leadership or strategy within the ruling alliance.
Responding to questions on the visits, Tejashwi Yadav dismissed the need for speculation, reiterating that decisions about Bihar’s leadership were not being made in the state. “There’s no need to think about it, because only a few people will decide who will be the next chief minister of Bihar,” he said.
Tejashwi Yadav further alleged that the government has been operating like a “remote control system”, claiming that those who assume the chief minister’s role lack a direct public mandate.
He also criticised the functioning of the administration, alleging that no cabinet meetings had been held for nearly two months, which he said was contributing to governance issues in the state.
Referring to past political developments, Tejashwi Yadav said he had anticipated tensions within the alliance, recalling that Nitish Kumar had previously broken away from the BJP in 2022 before returning later.
“No one is removing Nitish Kumar, but the BJP is removing him,” he claimed.
The ruling alliance has not officially responded to the allegations.
