Patna: Ajay Kumar Singh, a former legislative council member and senior Congress leader, joined the Janata Dal (United) on Sunday, marking a notable shift in Bihar’s political landscape.
He was inducted into the party by state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha at a function held at the party’s state office. Ajay Kumar Singh said he was drawn to JD(U) by the leadership of Nitish Kumar and his focus on welfare-oriented governance.
Welcoming him, Umesh Singh Kushwaha said Ajay Kumar Singh’s entry would strengthen the party’s organisational base, particularly in the Bhojpur–Buxar region. He added that the party would benefit from Ajay Kumar Singh’s political and social experience, reinforcing its commitment to “development with justice”.
Several senior leaders were present at the event, including Sanjay Kumar Singh, also known as Gandhiji, Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha, and MLAs Dulal Chand Goswami, Anil Kumar and Vasudev Kushwaha, along with party workers.
In a parallel development, several leaders from the Jan Suraj Party joined the Indian National Congress at a separate event held at the state Congress headquarters.
The new entrants were welcomed by state Congress president Rajesh Ram, who formally inducted them into the party. He said the Congress has always aimed to represent all sections of society and that the inclusion of new leaders would strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level.
Among those who joined were Govind Anand, Amit Anand, Abhiraj Singh, Prashant Abhishek, Shayak Alam and Professor Chandrima Singh, along with their supporters.
Senior Congress leaders including Rajesh Mehta, Pankaj Yadav, Kamal Kamlesh, Premchand Singh, Vimlesh Tiwari, Parvez Hasan and Manjeet Anand Sahu were also present at the gathering.
The twin developments underline ongoing political churn in Bihar ahead of future electoral contests, with parties seeking to expand their base through strategic inductions.
