Muzaffarpur: A major smuggling racket has been uncovered inside a hostel of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University, with police arresting two individuals and seizing a large quantity of cartridges.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Kazimuhammadpur Police Station conducted a raid and apprehended the suspects with 200 cartridges. The accused have been identified as Abhishek Tiwari, a resident of Siwan, and Anmol Kumar from Sitamarhi.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the two were illegally staying in rooms 54 and 55 of the PG Third Hostel on the university campus and were allegedly using the premises to carry out smuggling activities while posing as students.
According to police, the suspects were intercepted on the Kalambagh–Khabra Road while returning to the hostel on a motorcycle with the consignment. Station House Officer Navlesh Kumar Azad led the operation and arrested them on the spot.
The recovery has raised serious questions about security arrangements within the university campus, particularly the monitoring of hostel occupants.
The incident comes at a time when tensions are already high on campus. Students have been staging protests, including a hunger strike, over recent administrative decisions. In a separate incident, an explosive device was reportedly hurled at the residence of the vice-chancellor, with investigations still ongoing.
Police officials said the seizure of such a large quantity of ammunition points to the possibility of a wider conspiracy. An FIR is being registered and further investigation is under way.
