Patna: Preparations for Census 2027 have accelerated across Bihar, with the exercise set to make extensive use of digital technology for collecting and recording population data. Officials will use a dedicated mobile application to enter information directly into the digital system, a move aimed at improving the speed, accuracy and security of the census process.

The first phase of the census has already been completed in Gaya district. According to District Statistical Officer Jitendra Kumar, the initial phase covered a survey of households and public places.

First Phase Data To Be Uploaded By December

Data collected during the first phase is currently being uploaded to the central census portal. Officials have set a target of completing the uploading process by December.

The first phase is being followed by preparations for the second and more detailed stage of the exercise, which will focus on individual residents.

Enumerators To Visit Every Household In February

In February 2027, enumerators will visit households to collect information about every person living there. The exercise will include details such as the person’s name, educational qualification and other information prescribed under the census process.

The door-to-door data collection is scheduled to continue until February 28, 2027.

The detailed information collected during this phase will form the basis for compiling population and demographic data for the district.

Final Census List To Be Published On March 1

After the completion of the second phase, the final census list for Gaya district is scheduled to be published on March 1, 2027.

The census data will provide information about the population and other demographic characteristics of the district. Such data is expected to serve as an important basis for future development planning, allocation of resources and policymaking.

Focus On Vulnerable Sections

Officials will also place particular emphasis on collecting accurate information about different sections of the population, including vulnerable groups.

Awareness campaigns will be conducted to explain the importance of the census and encourage residents to provide accurate information to enumerators.

Census Staff Payments Released For First Phase

The central government has fixed honorariums for officials and personnel involved in the census according to their respective roles. Payments for the first phase have already been released.

According to the district administration, honorariums have been sanctioned for personnel ranging from district-level officials to enumerators. Payments for the second phase are expected to be released in March.

Enumerators And Supervisors To Receive Rs 9,000 For First Phase

A total of 8,424 enumerators will receive Rs 9,000 for the first phase and Rs 16,000 for the second phase. Similarly, 1,356 supervisors will receive Rs 9,000 for the first phase and Rs 16,000 for the second.

For charge officers, including block development officers and executive officers, the honorarium has been fixed at Rs 20,000 for the first phase and Rs 25,000 for the second.

The district magistrate, who will serve as the principal census officer, will receive Rs 25,000 for the first phase and Rs 35,000 for the second.

The district census officer and additional census officer will receive Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively across the two phases, according to the prescribed payment structure.

Digital Census To Strengthen Data Accuracy

The extensive use of digital tools is a key feature of Census 2027. Instead of relying entirely on conventional paper-based collection, enumerators will record information through a dedicated mobile application.

The shift is intended to streamline data collection and transmission while strengthening the accuracy and security of census records. The resulting database is expected to play a significant role in shaping future public policies and development programmes in Bihar.
