Patna: A review meeting was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Patna Municipal Corporation’s Municipal Commissioner, Mr. Yashpal Meena, to review the city’s cleanliness, preparations for the Swachh Survekshan 2026, drain cleaning, and action against illegal meat and fish shops. At the meeting, the Municipal Commissioner directed the geo-tagging of all garbage points in the city.
Monitoring of garbage collectors through CCTV
During the review, executive officials stated that the Municipal Corporation regularly collects garbage from streets, neighborhoods, and public places. Despite this, some anti-social elements reactivate garbage points by dumping garbage in the open after the garbage truck leaves. The Municipal Commissioner directed that all such locations be identified, geo-tagged, and CCTV cameras be installed to monitor those who throw garbage in the open.
The Municipal Commissioner stated, “IoT-based CCTV cameras should be installed at all garbage points in the city and connected to the Integrated Control and Command Center as well as the control room at the Patna Municipal Corporation headquarters. This will make it easier to identify those individuals and shopkeepers who are littering the city and damaging public property by dumping garbage in the open, even after the garbage truck has passed.” The Municipal Commissioner also directed that such individuals be identified and fined. He also stated that if a person or shopkeeper violates the rules three to four times, action should be taken to seal their property or establishment.
It is noteworthy that the Patna Municipal Corporation has already eliminated 650 garbage points through a campaign, while 85 additional garbage points were also cleaned with public support. Despite this, due to the negligence of some individuals, garbage points are again developing in the city. To address this problem, the corporation has decided to take strict action.
Instructions to remove/seal illegal meat and fish shops
The Municipal Commissioner has ordered the removal of illegal meat and fish shops and the sealing of permanent shops operating without licenses. He stated that vendors selling meat and fish in the open should be immediately removed, and strict action should be taken against shops operating without valid licenses. The Patna Municipal Corporation has been running a special campaign against open meat and fish shops for the past month. However, in many locations, vendors are re-establishing their shops after the removal.
The Municipal Commissioner has also directed the imposition of financial penalties on such vendors to effectively control violators.
