Nawada/Patna: A newly purchased electric scooter exploded while being charged at a house in Bihar’s Nawada district, triggering a fire that destroyed property worth several lakhs, officials said.
The incident occurred at the residence of ward councillor Sunaina Devi in the Warsaliganj municipal area late on Wednesday night.
Explosion During Charging
According to the family, the scooter had been bought earlier that evening by Sunaina Devi’s son, Vikas Kumar, and was plugged in for charging around midnight.
Vikas said smoke began emerging from the vehicle minutes before the explosion. “I noticed smoke and tried to move out, but within minutes there was a loud blast,” he said.
Fire Engulfs House
The explosion quickly led to a fire that spread through the house, destroying the scooter and several household items, including a television, refrigerator, furniture and a motorcycle.
Family members estimated the loss at between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 4 lakh.
Family Escapes Unhurt
Uday Kumar, the victim’s brother, said the incident occurred just hours after the scooter was brought home.
“Everyone was asleep when we smelled something burning. Moments later, there was an explosion and the fire spread rapidly,” he said.
All family members managed to escape without injuries.
