Patna: In a major infrastructure push, the Danapur Railway Division is preparing to upgrade 15 key stations into hi-tech facilities, with a focus on improving passenger convenience and safety. The plan includes major stations such as Patna Junction, Danapur, Rajendranagar, Mokama, Bihta, and Jehanabad.
As part of the upgrade, all platforms at these stations will be connected to foot overbridges through escalators. The move is expected to provide significant relief to elderly passengers and persons with disabilities, making it easier to move between platforms without relying solely on stairs.
According to officials, platform lengths will be extended to accommodate long trains with up to 24 coaches. In addition, platform widths will also be increased to ease congestion and manage crowd flow more effectively during peak hours.
The redevelopment plan also includes the installation of modern food and beverage stalls, clean toilets, and adequate seating arrangements for passengers. Each platform will have a dedicated helpline centre to assist travellers with train schedules, ticketing, and reservation-related queries, ensuring quicker grievance redressal.
Passenger Benefits
Railway authorities said the expansion of platform width will provide more space to passengers, reducing overcrowding and the rush often witnessed during train arrivals. Currently, shorter platforms leave some coaches outside, forcing passengers to step onto the tracks. With extended platforms, all 24 coaches will align within the platform area, eliminating this risk.
Wider platforms will also allow for more benches, larger waiting areas, and better shelter facilities. Additionally, improved fire safety systems and accessible emergency exits will be incorporated into the design.
The installation of escalators is expected to significantly enhance ease of movement, especially for passengers carrying heavy luggage, reducing the need to climb stairs and rush to reach their coaches.
