Patna: The Bihar government has set a target of Rs 10,000 crore in revenue collection for the Registration Department in the financial year 2026-27. This comes after the department collected a record Rs 8,403.46 crore in 2025-26, which was 101.86% of its target. Deputy chief minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav announced the new target during a press conference in Patna on Monday. He said the department’s strong performance shows steady growth and better management in recent years.
The department had set a target of Rs 8,250 crore for 2025-26 but managed to collect more than expected. In comparison, the department earned Rs 7,648.88 crore in 2024-25, which means it collected Rs 754.58 crore more in just one year. In 2020-21, the collection was only Rs 4,257 crore, showing a huge increase over the years. Officials said the rise in revenue happened because of better monitoring, improved technology and the hard work of department employees.
The government is also planning to make the property registration process fully digital under the new Bihar Registration Rules 2026. The state cabinet has approved these new rules to make the process completely paperless. This means people will not need to carry physical documents for property registration in the future. Digital signatures of both officials and property owners will be used to complete the process. The move is expected to make the system faster, easier and more transparent.
The government has also announced a special service for senior citizens aged 80 years and above. They will soon be able to register their land, plot or flat from home without visiting registration offices. This step is expected to help elderly people complete property-related work more comfortably.
The Registration Department is also working on digitising old property records. According to officials, 2.34 crore registered documents from 1995 to 2026 have already been digitised. The department wants to complete all remaining digitisation work in the current financial year. Once done, people will be able to access certified copies of their documents more easily.
The government also shared details about Bihar’s prohibition and excise enforcement. Since the liquor ban started on April 1 2016, a total of 17.18 lakh people have been arrested in liquor law violation cases. Out of these, 7.75 lakh were arrested by the Prohibition and Excise Department, while 9.42 lakh were arrested by the police.
In the last 10 years, 11.37 lakh cases have been registered under the liquor law. Authorities have seized more than 4.83 crore litres of liquor during this period. This includes foreign liquor and country-made liquor. Officials said 98% of the seized liquor has already been destroyed.
To stop illegal liquor trade, the government is using technology like drones and sniffer dogs. At present, 42 drones are being used for raids in different parts of Bihar. Between January 2022 and March 31, 2026, officials conducted more than 1.64 lakh raids, arrested 5,090 people and seized 51.74 lakh litres of liquor along with 366 vehicles. Call centres related to prohibition are also receiving more complaints and information from the public every day.
