Patna: The Patna Metro project has moved a step closer to operational rollout, with the Chief Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety conducting a detailed inspection of a key stretch in the eastern part of the city.
Nilabhr Sengupta, the metro rail safety chief, inspected the down line between Bhutnath and Malahipakri, reviewing safety and technical systems ahead of expected clearance for passenger services.
Comprehensive Safety Checks
Officials said the inspection covered critical infrastructure, including track alignment, viaduct structures and the overhead electric (OHE) system, to ensure operational safety.
At Malahipakri station, fire safety systems, lifts, escalators and emergency evacuation routes were also examined.
Trial Runs Conducted
Metro trains were run in both directions as part of the inspection process. Authorities tested speed, braking performance and signalling systems during the trials.
Officials said all systems performed satisfactorily during the test runs.

Approval Expected Soon
Following the inspection, Sengupta expressed satisfaction with the preparedness of the stretch, officials said.
Formal approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety is now awaited, after which operations on the Bhutnath–Malahipakri corridor are expected to begin.
Boost To City Mobility
The opening of this stretch is expected to ease congestion in eastern parts of Patna, offering faster and more reliable public transport for commuters.
Authorities said the expansion would mark a significant step in the phased rollout of the Patna Metro, aimed at transforming urban mobility in the state capital.
