Patna: An assistant registrar at Maulana Mazharul Haque Arabic and Persian University in Bihar has been arrested after allegedly being caught accepting a bribe of ₹250,000, according to the state vigilance bureau.
Md. Sanaullah Khan was detained on Tuesday from his office chamber in Mithapur, Patna. Officials said he is being questioned and will later be produced before a special vigilance court.
The arrest followed a complaint filed by Ramanand Mahto, a resident of Rosera in Samastipur district. Investigators said the complaint concerned students enrolled at centres identified as KRC 402 and 403 in Samastipur, whose results had been published without practical marks.
According to the vigilance bureau, Khan allegedly demanded money to update the practical marks and release pending examination results. Because the complaint involved a senior university official, investigators carried out a verification exercise before taking action.
Officials said the allegations were found to be credible, after which vigilance director general Jitendra Singh Gangwar ordered the formation of a raiding team led by deputy superintendent of police Shyam Babu Prasad.
Investigators said Khan was arrested inside his university office while allegedly receiving the money. Further inquiries are under way.
