Patna: In a major initiative, the Bihar government has launched a new door-to-door veterinary service, aiming to provide medical care for more than 3 crore 35 lakh animals across the state. This service will be provided through a combination of mobile apps (Kisan Pashupalak App), a call center (1962), and mobile veterinary units.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar officially inaugurated the service on Monday, distributing mobile vans to each of the 534 blocks across Bihar.
Animal Husbandry Minister Renu Kumari announced that a total of 1,100 veterinary doctors have been deployed for this initiative. These doctors will operate through 1,135 veterinary hospitals, with an added focus on remote areas. The government has also provided 227 blocks with mobile vans from its own treasury, under the Atmanirbhar Bihar initiative, ensuring comprehensive coverage.
Under this scheme, animals ranging from elephants to chickens will receive free medical treatment. Medicines will also be provided at no cost. Minister Renu Kumari emphasized that residents can contact the veterinary doctors through the toll-free number 1962 or the Kisan Pashupalak App from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily. The mobile veterinary unit will visit homes to provide medical care, including telemedicine options through the call center for quick consultations via audio-video calls.
“The veterinary doctors will visit two villages daily, organizing camps for both treatment and public awareness,” Kumari said.
As part of the government’s efforts to protect farmers’ crops, a special plan is underway to manage the increasing population of Nilgai (blue bulls), which have been causing significant damage to agricultural land. Minister Renu Kumari acknowledged that while the government is working on a solution, sterilization of Nilgais may be considered to control their numbers. This, she mentioned, would prevent the population from growing further if necessary.
